AI Pokémon Cards 2

Aug 7, 2023

The Beauty Is In The Details

Although I’m not as opposed to using AI as a lot of creatives, I still don’t like the idea of using whatever the tool spits out with no modifications. I probably spent way too long editing these images, but once I got started, I got lost in the work.

I’m stoked with how the type symbols and energy cards turned out. Those took quite a while to get just right, but given they’re on every card (sometimes multiple times) I think it was worth it.

My layout skills came in clutch when reimagining the layout of the cards. I definitely have a newfound respect for whoever did that back in the 90’s. (so many edge cases)

Fire Type Pokémon

My favorite thing about this set is the stark difference between the cuteness of the stage one Pokémon and the intensity of the rest.

Flareon is quite different than the rest, but it’s tough to go wrong using the term “fire spin”.

And just look at that Charmander… cuteness overload!!

Fighting Type Pokémon

This set probably strays the furthest away from the original designs, but I think all of them are very interesting deviations.

Mankey & Primeape are probably the most different, but still capture the vibe of the originals.

And my boy Sandshrew may be my favorite so far… it’s the baby pose for me!

Electric Type Pokémon

Ever since I first opened my first booster pack, Electric type has always been my favorite. You just have to love the “screw around and find out” type.

Two of my favorites from this set are Jolteon & Raichu. I absolutely love Jolteon’s hair, and I spent awhile trying to capture Raichu’s essence since it’s my all-time favorite Pokémon. (yes, I evolve my Pikachu… fight me)

Hitting My Stride

I had so much fun testing out new prompts, seeing what I could get… it’s pretty addicting honestly. However, manipulating the images and creating the cards was where I really fell in love with the process.

Since I’m a designer, rather than a traditional artist, I normally couldn’t have completed this project by myself, but with the help of AI, I was able to bring my ideas to life… and that’s pretty darn sweet if you ask me!
